Born March 23, 2001 in a family of 8 children, Ussi is the third born of six boys. He has two younger sisters.
His elder 2 brothers are in year 3 of secondary education and are both paid for by HELP Malawi. Ussi is a tribal name whose meaning could not be established.
His parents struggle yearly to raise food for the family as they can hardly get money for proper agriculture inputs which is vital for a farmer to achieve bumper harvest. His father has to work for other families in the village to generate some income to support the mother and 8 children in the family.
Despite all the challenges that Ussi faces at home for a living, he is focused on education - believing that it will be his only way out of poverty. He has been selected to Balaka Secondary School which is one of the best public schools in the country and is doing his first year of 4 years of secondary school.
He would like to become an Accountant when he finishes school. His favorite subject is Biology.
